They Judge Me

Mark 8: 27  …”Who do people say I am?”

 “Opinions”.
  • We get so wrapped up in who other people say that we are that we inevitably lose ourselves to the beliefs of others.
  • We inevitably shift our dreams, our goals because of what others have to say about us.
  • We lose focus because of what “they” have to say.
  • I experienced this some years back and I’m so glad that God gave me a wake-up call.  I was so concerned about what people were saying that I stepped back in my passion to do the work of God.  I was tired of hearing my name, I was tired of the jealousy, the envy and everything else that came with the package.  I was so tired that I just say, “you know what, I’m just going to sit back and watch” but that didn’t last long because God woke me up from my slumber.  He reminded me through His Words that I had to keep my eyes on the prize. Just like Paul said in Philippians 3:14. “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus”  I was reminded that what others thought about me didn’t count! All that matter was what God thought of me, who God said that I was.  I was also reminded that my desire should always be about God’s approval and not men, just as Paul said in the book of Galatians 1:10 – “Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.”
  • We’ve got to get out of that place in our hearts where we are constantly worried about what others think about us.  Then Jesus asked them (his disciples), “who do you say that I am?,  Peter replied, “You are the Messiah”
  • Peter knew the correct answer because He knew Jesus.
  • We worry about what people have to say about us and the majority of the time, the people talking are not relevant to the success of our destiny.
  • Remember that what Jesus asked “who do people say that I am” the response was Elijah, John the Baptist…etc. They knew Him not because they did not seek to find out about Him.  They had no relationship with Him.  Their judgments didn’t matter.
  • Remember, it’s who God says you are that counts!

The Right relationship!

  • I cannot stress the importance of our relationship with God
  • Your relationship determines your life and your afterlife.
  • Your relationship with God determines whether things will run smoothly or will be chaotic.
  • Your relationship has an impact, whether positive or negative, on you and those around you.
  • So what kind of a relationship do you have with God?
  • Do you put Him primarily in all your endeavors or is He only allowed to show up when you’ve exhausted all your efforts?
  • We see the importance of relationship in the story of Abraham! He trusted God! He put God first! He believed even though He did not see God.
  • He continually made an effort to keep His relationship with God up to date. He listened to God.  He spent time with God.
  • We do this in our relationships with our friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wives so why is it so hard to do it with the most important person? (We haven’t fallen in love with Him – that’s another post for another day!)

Romans 4:13

  • God’s promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God’s law, but on the right relationship with God that comes by faith.

Build on your relationship with God and not on human approval.
